Blog 13- Chloe At the beginning of the trip, we were all getting used to how to tie our sulus. As a cultural piece of the village we’re intruding on, it would have been disrespectful for us to forgo the sulu-norm. It also would have been significantly easier. I am not an overly careful person – I think being so would be a waste of time – and as a result it is safe to say there have been some sulu-related incidents. There’s something deeply personal about the clothes you wear under your other clothes, the way underwear feels different than a swimsuit. The shorts I wear are nothing special and nothing new, but the dramatic unveiling really left me with something to mull over. Emre Blog 25 As I am leaving Nanuku, I can’t believe how much the people here have done for me, especially  my homestay mom Luisa (my nene). Every single day, my nene wakes up early to make a huge breakfast just for me. Although the breakfast changes daily, it is somehow always delicious. I was worried coming here that I wouldn’t like the food, but it is some of the best I have ever had. She makes so much food that I almost always can’t eat it all, and I have a reputation for eating a lot. On the weekends she makes lunch and dinner too, and it is just as good. But making food is not even near all that my nene does for me. She also does all my laundry, and I usually change at least once during the day because I am so hot and sweaty here. She neatly folds the clothes, places them in my room, and then organizes it, even though I have told her multiple times that she really doesn’t need to.  My nene has also put up with my failures and never gotten mad at me, which I find impressi...

Fiji Blog 9 + 10 - Wilson

Wilson Day 9 + 10   After sleeping in and getting some much-needed rest, we all piled in to the back of a truck and set out for the nearest town, Ba. After about 30 minutes in the car, we arrived at a gas station which was our first opportunity to buy our necessities, which included a lot of peanut butter as well as some chocolate milk, ballons, and toys for our families in Nanuku. Once everything had been purchased, we hit the road again and quickly arrived at the rugby fields in Ba. We were all excited to watch our family members and friends in the games, and some of us even got to suit up and sit on the bench. We all watched as our district’s girls team dominated and continued their undefeated season. In between games we all circled up to show each other magic tricks, play card games like go-fish, and chat about our lives back home.
